Silver Lining?

I have been trying desperately to think of the "Silver Lining" of this horrific tragedy in Japan.  I simply cannot put myself in "their" shoes.  I have no idea what this experience would be like.  To lose family and friends, to see my home and prized possessions completely demolished, to fear nuclear disaster, or perhaps even be one of the missing.  I cannot relate.  I want to help but I do not know how.  Do I send money?  Do I send prayers? Do I send both?
For now, here I sit looking out at a chilly Saturday morning with its light dusting of snow.  I'm in my warm home quietly drinking my morning coffee as I think of the survivors in Japan.  I feel guilty that I am so comfortable but to be brutally honest, I would never want to trade places.
So what could possibly be the "Silver Lining"? Is it simply to learn a lesson and to count your blessings?  I feel that that sounds a bit flippant because the situation is so very complex.  In my opinion nothing, absolutely nothing about the earthquake, tsunami, or nuclear catastrophe can be answered "simply".
At this point, I am not sure if there is just one answer to my question "What is the Silver Lining?"  Perhaps there are many answers. What do you think?  I would really like to hear what you have to say.  I would truly appreciate it!
Thanks so much,
Kim

  1. Kim,
The silver lining in Tragic events can often be found in our own hearts. Compassion and love for others are often items that I struggle with. Events such as these always make me thank God for my circumstances and feel a lot of comassion for people I will never meet. I always count it as one of the many ways God reestablishes his best in me.
    Great post
